Cencora paid $75m in Bitcoin ransomware: Bloomberg

Bitcoin ransomware attacks

A healthcare solutions provider, Cencora, paid a record $75 million ransom to a ransomware group in Bitcoin earlier this year, as reported by Bloomberg. This payment exceeded previous incidents where payments exceeded $40 million. The FBI reported that ransomware attacks defrauded over 250 companies across the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Despite concerns over ransomware attacks using crypto schemes, a Chainalysis report in May 2024 showed a nearly 50% decline in payments to attackers in 2023.
