Blockchain Technology in Vatican Library
The Vatican Library has collaborated with NTT DATA Italia to utilize blockchain technology for preserving its extensive collection of manuscripts. The “Vatican Library Web3 Support Project” was announced on June 17, aiming to enhance the library’s online presence and engage supporters through modern technology.
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) Distribution
The Vatican Library plans to distribute non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to donors and social media users, granting access to high-resolution images of valuable manuscripts. This experimental project, initially launched in Japan in February 2023, has garnered interest from Italian residents with 419 users already receiving Polygon-based NFTs.
Future Applications of Web3 Project
The Vatican Library, known for its historical texts dating back to the 14th century, aims to make ancient documents more accessible to the public through its web3 project. Future plans may include immersive extended reality experiences like augmented or virtual reality, expanding the library’s mission to preserve cultural heritage.
